Ted Fuller was born in Topeka, Kansas and raised in Denver, Colorado, where he attended Western State College of Gunnison, CO. He was the editor of Electrical World, a McGraw-Hill magazine, and handled editing/writing assignments for utilities in Denver and Decautur, Illinois, then later San Francisco. He relocated to the Bay Area in 1963 where he settled with his wife in the Pleasant Hill/Lafayette Area. It was there that he and his first wife Betty Ann stayed quite active and busy raising one daughter and four sons, later adding four grandchildren to the family. Carlton Senior Living Davis spotlights resident Reba Susi and her incredible life story. Reba was born on February 19, 1923 to parents Dalton Dylan and Lilly Kennedy Dylan in the small town of Oak Hill, Tennessee, a suburb south of Nashville. Her parents had a land lease and migrated down from Cape Cod, Massachusetts, by way of Virginia, to settle in the area. She was fortunate to have five siblings: brothers DW, James, and William, and sisters Marie Pugh and Jane Ray. Resident Spotlight - Lillian Carter

Lillian Carter was born on April 26, 1924 in Bronx, New York City, New York, to parents Charles and Julia Metz. Her parents were immigrants from former Austria-Hungary, and came to the United States in 1921. She had one older brother, Charles, who had moved to the US with them. Her father had been a contractor and bricklayer in Europe, and was able to find work in New York. Her mother stayed at home to raise Lillian and her brother, and care for the household. Virginia Farris was born to parents Mildred and Norman Snyder in the small town of Gustine, California, in the Central Valley south of Stockton. She has three siblings, including her brother, Eugene, and sister, Norma. Virginia has in fact lived in various corners of California, including Modesto, Berkeley, and Carmel. For the last 24 years, she has called our lovely town of Davis her home, and says that the thing she likes best about Davis is the fact that she feels safe here. Resident Spotlight - Betty Ann Laudin

Carlton Senior Living Downtown Pleasant Hill Resident Betty Ann Laudin participated in a Golf Tournament yesterday that was organized by Contra Costa Parkinson’s Network. Betty who has Parkinson’s disease was accompanied by our On-Site Physical Therapist, Josiah Anderson and fellow Director of Resident Services. “We had a great time. We hit some good one and some bad, but overall we all had a lot of fun this year and can’t wait to play again next year!!” said Betty when asked about the golfing tournament. Carlton Residents sure know how to have fun!

Samella Neisler, or “Sam as most around Downtown Pleasant Hill call her, was born in Memphis, Tennessee and her father earned a living as a farmer. The best times she had were in White Haven,TN. Sam enjoyed school. She was a good student as she even won a spelling bee in her local small town! Deacon was born in Cape Elizabeth Maine, a town of 1500. One of 6 children (5 boys and a girl) lost his mother at the age of 3 years old, attended local schools, worked on the farm locally to earn money to help grandmother who helped raise siblings. Garold was born in December 1926 in the small town of Fredonia, Kansas, the towns population today barely reaches 2500. He met his beautiful wife Nancy in Elementary school while he was in the fifth grade and she in sixth. He and Nancy married just one month before his 21st birthday and bought their first house together. Nancy was a school teacher and Garold had jobs with the local rock quarry and in Wichita he learned craftsman trades. Phyllis was born in Burns, Wyoming and lived on a Farm near carpenter for 27 years. She attended the University of Wyoming and completed the studies at San Francisco State University. Her working career was 26 years as Grade School teacher in the Martinez School District. She has been retired for 31 years. After retirement, Phyllis and her husband Bill visited Canada, Mexico and all 50 states in a Trailer; they flew to Hawaii, no bridges to Hawaii!
