Phyllis was born in Burns, Wyoming and lived on a Farm near carpenter for 27 years. She attended the University of Wyoming and completed the studies at San Francisco State University. Her working career was 26 years as Grade School teacher in the Martinez School District. She has been retired for 31 years. After retirement, Phyllis and her husband Bill visited Canada, Mexico and all 50 states in a Trailer; they flew to Hawaii, no bridges to Hawaii! They visited many National Parks, several Historical Sites and attended Dixieland Jazz Festivals. Both Phyllis and Bill felt fortunate that they were able to hike many trails during their Travels. …

Resident Spotlight – Jim Helt

Little Jimmy was born in St. Paul, MN on March 3, 1940, living in the Midwest for 22 years. Soon after graduating from Northern Iowa University,  I enlisted in the Officer Training Program of the US Air Force, becoming a Computer Officer. I am a Viet Nam War vet.  During my tour many thoughts about war and its ramifications kept spinning through my head, making me think profoundly –  right/wrong, war/peace. John Shumway, has been living at Downtown Pleasant Hill for four years. Before that he and his wife, Janice lived in Pleasant Hill for 50 years. John Graduated from University of Minnesota and was married to his wife, Janice for 62 years and has been blessed with four children. John has degree in Physics and Mathematics and his First job was being a shipboard officer. John was on active Naval Duty/ Reserve for about 20 years and he is a Veteran of Korean War. Resident Spotlight – Robert “Bob” Good, Jr.

Robert “Bob” Good, Jr. was born on October 30, 1918, in Canton, Ohio to father Robert Charles, Sr. and mother Mary. His father worked in the steel industry in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as a sales consultant, distributing information and insight as to how to improve steel products on a molecular and chemical level, and how to change its properties to become stronger, or stainless, for example. In the midst of the Second World War, Bob volunteered to get commission in radar and submarine school. There were 120 cadets in his class, and he held a class ranking of 13! Resident Spotlight – Audrey Shipley

Audrey Shipley was born in the small town of Frederick, South Dakota, population 250 people, twenty-five miles north of Aberdeen, on a very snowy, bitter-cold day in March 1919. The snow was so deep, that the highway and roads were blocked, but the doctor in Frederick called the surgeon in Aberdeen, and asked him for assistance. The surgeon knew that the daily local train had already passed through town, so he placed his car on the railroad tracks, and he and his Red Cross nurse drove along them for nearly 25 miles to reach the Howell home! Audrey was born to George Brooke Howell, a senator serving in the South Dakota State Senate from 1915-1 …

Resident Spotlight – Dick Morrill

Meet Dick Morrill! Dick is originally from Bristow, Oklahoma. He enjoys playing pinochle, cribbage, bridge and many other card games. He even brought his horse racing game that he made. It is a horse derby game that he ran at the Morgan Hill Senior Center and I think we are going to have a lot of fun. Join us in this new game called Derby Days! Dick has already volunteered with out Helping Hearts and he is going to be a great addition to the community!

Resident spotlight for Carlton Senior Living Downtown Pleasant Hill: Bakersfield native, and Oakland adopted son William T. “Bill” Larkins has been photographing aircraft for over 75 years. He is the author or co-author of 9 books on the subject of aviation history, and his photos can be found on numerous WEB sites on the internet. He continues to assemble information that will allow for the complete and correct identification of the aircraft in the photos he has taken and collected.
