Meet Mickey Risken, World War II veteran and Carlton Senior Living’s spotlight resident — Maurice “Mickey” Risken was born December 16, 1925 in Potrerillos, Chile. His parents met and married in 1924 in Montana where his father worked for Anaconda Copper Mining Company. The couple soon moved to Chile to help build a new refinery and quickly started their family. Mickey and his younger sister, Gail, grew up learning both English and Spanish. Freeman was born to parents Virginia and Frank on March 18, 1925, in Sandpoint, Idaho, a small community on the shores of Lake Pend Oreille. His mother and father both managed restaurants, and in those times, there rarely were specialty restaurants, and they “just served everything.” In 1941, he and his parents moved to San Francisco, to manage another restaurant. Meet Gene Page, Carlton Senior Living’s spotlight resident – Gene was born in Du Quoin, Illinois, home of the famous Du Quoin State Fair which brings visitors from all over the United States each year. He later relocated to the Bay Area and began working at an insurance company in San Francisco where he’d meet his future bride, Marian. Since both he and Marian worked for the same company Gene explains that, “one of us eventually had to quit”. After completing school, he joined the military at age 17 and served the United States Marine Corp for 26 years, 2 months and 8 days before retiring in 1978. Following his retirement from the Marines, he traveled to Saudi Arabia as a Civil Servant and, for five years, worked as an adviser to the Saudi Air Force. Ted Fuller was born in Topeka, Kansas and raised in Denver, Colorado, where he attended Western State College of Gunnison, CO. He was the editor of Electrical World, a McGraw-Hill magazine, and handled editing/writing assignments for utilities in Denver and Decautur, Illinois, then later San Francisco. He relocated to the Bay Area in 1963 where he settled with his wife in the Pleasant Hill/Lafayette Area. Reba was born on February 19, 1923 to parents Dalton Dylan and Lilly Kennedy Dylan in the small town of Oak Hill, Tennessee, a suburb south of Nashville. Her parents had a land lease and migrated down from Cape Cod, Massachusetts, by way of Virginia, to settle in the area.
