Toy Soldiers Reign Over San Leandro

As part of our contribution to our local city programs, activities, and improvements, Carlton Senior Living San Leandro recently sponsored a toy soldier as a token of support for the San Leandro Downtown Association, and to bring a bit of whimsical charm to our downtown during the holiday season. According to German folklore, nutcrackers were given as keepsakes to bring good luck to your family and protect your home. This toy soldier nutcracker is one of 12 that adorn San Leandro, watching over our community’s good tidings and holiday well wishes!

Carlton Senior Living of San Leandro received a very special visit from Oakland’s Diablo Ballet. The stars of the Nutcracker shared their history with the ballet, their daily routines, and what it takes to prepare for this iconic holiday tradition. They ended with three performances, including the unforgettable Flower Dance, the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy and Waltz of the Snowflakes.  It was a nostalgic and enjoyable evening for all!

Veterans Day 2016 - San Leandro

Veteran’s at Carlton Senior Living San Leandro gathered to be honored on this Veteran’s Day with a special pinning ceremony. We began with saluting the flag while pledging the allegiance.  Each Veteran was then recognized with a certificate of appreciation, and a gold American flag pin. Residents shared their stories of triumphs and tribulations, shared their metals and memorabilia and most moving of all, their appreciation for one another. We truly honor their service and all that they have given to our country. Please enjoy the photo gallery below.

Carlton San Leandro's Night at the Opera

Residents, family and staff members dressed to the nines to celebrate a Night at the Opera Thursday evening.  The night began with a formal cocktail social, including a music of the night martini bar followed by a candle lit prime rib dinner in the dining room. The evening was ended with an unforgettable performance of Opera singer Chris Pucci’s rendition of Phantom of the Opera. Another spectacular memory to add to our Carlton events. Please enjoy the photo gallery below.

Associates on the Move - Veronica Pavlakis

When Veronica Pavlakis was still in high school, she decided to volunteer at Carlton Senior Living San Leandro (formerly Carlton Plaza San Leandro). The location was close to her home and she earned high school credits for the hours she worked. Though she was only 15 years old at the time, Pavlakis said she bonded with many residents at the community. Pavlakis enjoyed the experience so much she applied to work for Carlton Senior Living, and in 2008, she became the Director of First Impressions. In that position, Pavlakis said she really started to understand the Carlton Senior Living philosophy. “No one here says, ‘That’s not my job,’” Pavlak …

Resident Spotlight - Jim Helt

Little Jimmy was born in St. Paul, MN on March 3, 1940, living in the Midwest for 22 years. Soon after graduating from Northern Iowa University,  I enlisted in the Officer Training Program of the US Air Force, becoming a Computer Officer. I am a Viet Nam War vet.  During my tour many thoughts about war and its ramifications kept spinning through my head, making me think profoundly –  right/wrong, war/peace. My work life was varied –  public accounting, military, Franciscan brother, Meals on Wheels coordinator, Assistant to the Chief Accountant at Providence Hospital. Being a native Midwesterner my favorite foods include baked walleyed pike fi …
