Resident Spotlight – Garold Sharp

garoldGarold was born in December 1926 in the small town of Fredonia, Kansas, the towns population today barely reaches 2500. He met his beautiful wife Nancy in Elementary school while he was in the fifth grade and she in sixth. He and Nancy married just one month before his 21st birthday and bought their first house together. Nancy was a school teacher and Garold had jobs with the local rock quarry and in Wichita he learned craftsman trades. Settling in California a few years later Nancy continued to teach and Garold was working with the Albertsons Chain, together with their four beautiful children they continued to flourish. During this time he also served in the US Army.
Upon retirement they began many years of volunteer work. First, managing a thrift shop here in Concord and then beginning another local shop named “Teen Challenge” that specializes in teen clothing. After managing the two stores for several years they really “retired” and Garold then began his work with the Concord Senior Center. Managing a thrift table for the center with all proceeds going to Meals on Wheels programs. He raised over $7000 in his time there. After the passing of his wife in 2010, Garold came to live with us here at CSL With volunteering in his heart he began work in our community delivering birthday cards and eventually sponsoring “Garold’s Goodies” on Saturdays, selling left behind items and things residents no longer want. To date, Garold has raised over $3000 and given back to residents with the birthday fund. Always smiling and always willing to help someone he is an asset to our community and residents. Thank you for all that you do!!
